I really don't like to cook but this has really easy good recipes. A friend even got ahold of it and used several recipes before me.
I bought this book to help me prepare for the gastric bypass I will be having in 5 days. If that's what you are looking for too, then this is not the book for you. I will give it kudos though for the way it lists what time frames you can use the recipes. I thought I'd done enough research on it to know what to expect, but I was wrong. If you find the comfort foods cookbook with listings for "normal" food, give me a holler. I believe that one of the many reasons that I'm overweight is because I am a very picky eater. The book arrived two days ago and I am horrified at the recipes that this book holds. Half of the recipes in here call for ingredients that can't be found in the local Kroger or Piggly Wiggly.
The types of food I like, are not necessarily the things that are good for me. I was hoping for a cookbook that would cater to someone like me who wants to know how to disguise good for me food in recipes that sound like good ole meat n' potatoes sorts of things. So if you are like me, keep looking, because this isn't the book for you. One cannot live on protein powder alone.Kristin
I was wrong. and STILL couldn't find 3/4 of the ingredients. This cookbook was soooooooo disappointing. Most the other recipes have ingredients I cannot find in my local grocery store. It was a complete waste of money for me. There are tons of omelet recipes - who doesn't know how to make an omelet. I even tried going to a grocery store in a bigger town (35 miles away).
When it does convert a normal recipe, it's usually just "use splenda instead of sugar" or some generic statement like that. Judging from all the good reviews this book has, I thought it'd be great. I thought this would be a cookbook about "everyday eating." Like conversions of 'everyday recipes' into more manageable portions, or variations thereof. And there were only a few pages of desserts, while there are almost 20 pages of sauce recipes. Maybe if you live in a big city it'd be easier, but I live in a small town. Now that's just common sense. I'll stick to my Hungry Girl cookbook for now.
Being a cookbook fanatic and just having had surgery, I was on the prowl for a new cookbook that would help me with my weight loss journey. The book is only a guideline and can't encompass every doctors wishes. I have tried several recipes and they are very enjoyable.
:)My favorite part of this book shows you the serving sizes for each meal for several types of surgery and non-surgery portions. The only thing I caution is that the time frames for many of the dishes are not in accordance with what my doctors advise. Boy did I find it.
The cover recipes is especially good. And even a timeline as to when you can eat it. and how.
However, each doctor is different and you should follow what they say no mater what.
It is very informative as to nutrition content and whatever stage you are in after weight loss surgery. This is a great book. It's wonderful for those trying to lose weight and even more so for those who had weight loss surgery. It is a very valuable asset to me for having tasty food for after weight loss surgery that will also help to achieve my goals. This book was the one my weight loss surgeon suggested and suggests to all his patients, that says it all.
